Direct consequence of the Raglan Land Occupation
The Maori land occupation of the Raglan golf course gained media attention which led to the government returning the alienated land to the Tainui Awhiro Maori in 1984. The effect of the land occupation on society effectively pressured the government into making an effort to settle the land grievance and eventually return it. Although it took over 30 years to have the land returned to the Tainui Awhiro Maori the protest led by Eva Rickard was instrumental in the process.
